SENTRAL's Journey
SENTRAL was first established as an Institute for tertiary education on 1st January 2002. With the Ministry of Education Malaysia Approval and Registration KP[JPS]/5195/1227[20] on 25th July 2002, it marked a new educational beacon in the heart of the City of Georgetown in Penang.
Alongside other institutions of higher learning, SENTRAL is focused towards contributing to the National aspiration of making Malaysia a Centre of Education in the region and in particular, Penang. SENTRAL is wholly owned by SENTRAL EDUCATION SDN. BHD., a Company incorporated under The Companies Act of 1967 to provide quality Management and technology education and training in the region as well as to develop and provide professional skills that meet the Nation's needs.
In 2006 the Ministry of Education Malaysia upgraded the status of SENTRAL to that of a COLLEGE. SENTRAL, with the ideals that inspired its founders, continues its commitment to the pursuit of education excellence within the context of respect, caring and justice, marked by The National Ideology and intellectual vigour as in the National Education Philosophy.
SENTRAL's New Home
Sentral Tower is a glass-and-steel skycraper at No. 3 Penang Street, in Georgetown, Penang. It is located at the junction of Penang Street with Bishop Street, at the heart of Georgetown's Financial District.
Built in the 80s, before strict regulation on height within the heritage zone was implemented, Bangunan AHP2 over the inner city of Georgetown. It is and will remain the tallest building in the area, as the area is today within the Georgetown World Heritage Site, where new building heights are strictly controlled.
Bangunan AHP2 is 14 storeys high, with a 5-storey car park and basement. When it was first built, it was known as the Development & Commercial Bank Building or D&C Bank. Later on, it became known as Bangunan Maybank Trust. Later on it became known as Wisma Manilal, before it was bought over by the real estate trust Amanah Harta Tanah PNB2, or AHP2, which is managed by Pelaburan Hartanah Nasional Bhd. The building is presently owned by SENTRAL College, which will be based there from November 2012. And, Sentral College Penang is officially operates on 16th December 2013.
